Soooo.... I'm considering going mobile. Cats only. I was doing some research online and the fees that people can get are amazing. On the opposite side of the state I found some lady charging $85 for a bath and $150 for a Lion cut/ Badly matted cat.

I've always been more partial to cats than dogs.
I do feel that I have a way with them.
People keep calling and asking for a cat referral and I have nowhere to refer them to.

My uncle can get vans at auction. He just had a really cool Ambulence. Could you see it? I could fix the siren to go meeeeeooooow, meeeeooooow. Lol. But I'm wondering how to outfit a unit. Or I could look for a used mobile. I'm in a very populated area, and while it's not ritzy, there are many richer communities I could get to within 15min-30min.

I want my house back, well, ideally I want to move. But until I can, I could turn one of the rooms in my shop into a playroom for my girls and still keep the other room as grooming for my personal pets. I know I'd get MAJOR referals, not only from vets but from other groomers in my area. Also, I wouldn't need to have a large clientele, I'd only need about 60 regulars, because I only want to do it part time and around my girls schedules.

So, that's what I've been toying with. Am I crazy?

Yes you are crazy LOL Very Happy .
We have considered grooming cats at our salon because there are very few groomers who do them here. I used to groom cats and they were never a problem but because of my health issues I cannot take the chance of getting bitten.
I think mobile cat grooming would be a great success! cat

Thanks. I think. Lol.

I am actually extremely comfortable with cats. I have 5 of my own. I started out as a vet asst. because of my love of cats. My experience there is what led me to dogs, and then grooming. I still wouldn't groom the real nasty ones. But I was the one who delt with all the cats at the vet hospital, so I've gotten a lot of experience with them.
I was just talking to another mobile groomer in SC about it and she said she makes her most money on cats. And she might be willing to sell her mobile unit to upgrade. I have calls in right now to all of my vet contacts to see what they think, and what they think I could ask for such a service. One of my friends is already frothing at the mouth to refer me cats in her area. She says she gets multiple calls a week, doesn't groom them and doesn't know where to refer them.
I'm thinking the biggest convenience for owners is that most cats don't travel well, and might be ticked off by the time they get to the vet/groomer. And the best part would be charging an automatic $50 no show fee before I will reschedule them. Can't get away with that with a stationary shop.
I'm going to order Jodi Murphy's mobile DVD's and I'm gathering some market research. Gosh, just the fact that all I would ever need is 2 shampoos and half the equipment makes it so tempting.

Well, I've found an RV that I really like the style and price of. They are called Winnebago Lesharo's. They are 22 feet long, have a bathroom and for their age, are very modern looking. Most were made around 86-88. But they seem to be the VW of the RV culture. Meaning that they have a huge fan base and are quite well loved and dependable, but they are hard to find and hard to find parts for. I've seen them for around 5,000 in other states. I fell in love with the style when I found the website of a woman who remodeled on into a grooming shop. It's so cute. And I really don't want anything bigger than 22 feet.
So, if anyone knows anyone who has an 86-88 Winnebago Lesharo that has a good body and runs well, Let me know. I don't care what the insides look like, I'm going to rip them out anyway.

I didn't go with that Wynne. I bought a bus. Yup. Lol. A 25 foot shuttle bus. Got a great deal on it, but I still have to convert it. It's being painted metallic silver right now. I'm going to have it painted like an egyptian Mau. Logo will be a cat with the Pgh skyline behind it, drawn by a tattoo artist who is a freind of mine. I'm closing up my shop on May 21st, and will start with the bus on July 9th as "Steel City Kitty". They call Pittsburgh the "Steel City". I live in the "Steel Valley" school district. It's a burgh thang.

I am so happy to be taking a break. My dad got sick in November, and I'm still trying to catch up from that. He's also doing my Anchor in memory of my dad. They called him "Captain Al".
